  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

So, a big story in the news here the last few days has been about this underage kid who accidentally shot and killed his best friend. They got hold of this semi-automatic pistol, see, and the kid dropped the magazine out and, aware there was still a round in the chamber, pulled the slide back to clear it. The slide slipped out of his grip and went forward, rechambering the round, and the hammer dropped. BANG! Unfortunately, it was pointing at his friend at the time.

Lots of boohooing about the tragic loss of life, and what good kids they both were, and how bad guns are. Not one damn word about who was responsible for leaving the loaded gun out, where an underage minor child had access to it, whi.ch is illegal in this state. Will the owner be punished? Probably not, because in most cases prosecutors figure their grief over the incident is enough punishment. So with no legal deterrent, more owners leave guns out where minors can get hold of them, and more minors die. We have the laws, let's enforce them.

Sounds like a legitimate accident to me...case closed.

    1. freethinker
Maybe, but an accident that could have been prevented if the gun owner had kept it locked up, as he was legally required to do.

Some households have various gun owners, and perhaps it was locked up just prior to this accident...accidents happen, and this kid will be fucked up the rest of his life over this.

We have to ask if we could live with ourselves if it was us left our gun laying around and our kid got hold of it.

The thing is, we need to draw that picture for adults before the kid finds the gun.

    1. FuntimeFla
Comes back to "spanking" ! Government in many places prevent parents from disciplining their kids! When I was a kid going near a gun unsupervised, earned a severe ass whipping, of course you cannot do that now days !

If your pistol is involved in such a tragic accident is there an appropriate amount of time that should elapse or protocol that should be observed, before returning to pistol enjoyment?

The real question is : Why have Govt entities taken away from parents their rights to discipline their children and belt their ass when they get near the guns? Parents are not allowed to be parents any more ! Do gooders want children to be seen as little adults. They are not !

    And what is "pistol enjoyment"???

And do you have to own the "pistol" or can you get "enjoyment" from another person's "pistol"??? Does it really have to be a "pistol" or can you substitute a revolver instead?

Have you ever experienced "pistol enjoyment" yourself ???

I’m not gun expert but isn’t a revolver also a pistol. I’ve only enjoyed target practice and bi-athalon competition.
These pastimes involve long guns that are always kept safely stored when not in use.
If I owned a pistol and left it loaded and laying around and it was involved in an accident like this I would probably consider using it on myself.

Pistols are handguns with one or more stationary chambers... Revolvers are handguns that use multiple rotating chambers....

So a revolver is not a pistol? The one involved in this was definitely a pistol.
I don’t think it could have happened the same way if it had been a revolver type pistol.

They are both considered handguns... The trigger pull on modern revolvers is about the same as most striker fired semi automatic pistols....

Which is pretty much how anyone else would feel.

Handled a suicide once, 15 year old kid got dads shotgun and blew his brains all over the ceiling. Dad had it locked up and the shells separate and locked up but the kid had one key and pried the back off of the cabinet with the shells.

Two weeks later shooter handled dads suicide.

    1. FuntimeFla
Would Shooter feel any different had 15 year old kid got keys to dads car and drove into a bridge piling? Suicide is suicide, If Dad took another car and drove into the same piling would you you have felt better? NO! The kid was intent upon doing himself in, and Dad probably going to be held prosecutable decided to take the same course. Nothing good could have come from any prosecution.

What charges will the gun owner be made to answer for? Surly something heavier than improper storage.

It depends 0n the state. Many states have no laws at all when it comes to storing firearms. The NRA made sure of that.

In the case Shooter handled it was a self imposed death penalty. Happens in a lot of these cases, is shooters understanding. Hard for society to impose a more harsh penalty than what the adults impose on themselves.

Firearms can be very dangerous and deadly if not handled properly... But so can automobiles, alcohol and drugs....

For some reason here in the US we teach our kids about the dangers of driving impaired or recklessly. We teach them about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

We educated (or try to) them in proper driving and advise them to avoid drugs and alcohol for their own good.

However, for some reason, it's taboo to teach them about firearms safety and what to do if in a situation where someone is playing with a gun.

I think if this issue was addresses in a proper way by the education system, the number of accidental shootings would be much lower.

We should be teaching firearms safety in our schools starting in kindergarten....

You are wrong in that assumption! Firearms safety is taught at every level by " law abiding firearms owners, parents, the NRA, boy scouts, and other entities"
however it is street gangs who teach otherwise!

However you are right, that it should be taught in kindergarten all the way through high school! Firearm safety and marksmanship should be taught at every grade level!

It's like idiot parents who insist their kids do not play with matches. You have to teach your kids proper use of matches, other wise when they get their hands on the matches , somebody gets burned!

When we graduated Marine Corps Boot Camp, the Drill instructors told us "if you get sent to Camp Lejuene in North Carolina, Don't go to Court Street"
A goddamned silver platter invitation if there ever was such a thing, Where the hell do you think we went as soon as we got there? That was where all the hookers from Greenville college, the tattoo shops , and bars were! That was where the fun was , along with the trouble.

Point of that comment, If you tell your kids not to do something, its an invitation to see "why not" and bad results follow ! You have to show them "Why not" !

The year I started high school the glee club needed prop storage and took over the indoor shooting range in the basement under the Girls gymnasium. There was pressure to shut down the shooting club. Peacenik parents, Vietnam war.

Yeah... the precious little snowflakes continue to peddle irrelevant Raw Story bullshit as Joe Biden takes an economy that Trump empowered - that was strong enough to withstand COVID and the Shutdowns engineered by Blue state governors, a border policy that worked, A strong stance against China's economic aggression, and a Middle East policies that were well on their way to planting a lasting peace (except for Iran, of course - who Biden has reinvigorated), among other things, and throws it into the shitter. Energy independence? NOT ON JOE'S WATCH!

Yeah, traitorous Raw Story Libfucks - keep pushing your inconsequential bullshit - we have certainly come to expect it of you.

The reason 14,000 kids got shot in the last ten years is hand guns kept for personal protection.
There just too many in existence to do anything about it. That’s just the price paid.

I’ve explained this to you before. Kids go in swimming pools. Kids go in cars daily.
Kids do not generally handle firearms . So can you see the problem with comparing the stats?
14,000 kids shot in ten years becomes a bit of a head scratcher. No?

I used to keep track of some of those and hardly a day would go by when there wasn't some kid killed in some stupid shit gun carelessness. And sometimes the opposite. A kid would get hold of a gun and accidentally shoot their parent or other adult.

And semi automatic hand guns are mostly to blame for that. Especially the insane idea of having a round in the chamber. And on many guns, especially Glock handguns, that only have a safety on the trigger. Which is how so many toddlers end up shooting themselves in the head. There hands are so small they can't pull the trigger unless they turn it around and hold it with both hands pulling the trigger with their thumbs while they are staring down the barrel.

I have been pointing out on this forum for years we in the US have reached a point where we have more "gun rights" then we have gun sense and responsibility to go with them.

And we can especially think the NRA for getting us to this point.

It still the Adult who owns the gun that fault you should never leave a load weapon of any time where a young child could find it think it's a toy and play with it.

    1. FuntimeFla
First rule of Gun safety ! The gun is to be presumed as loaded ! Even the military has in its manual of arms "Inspection Arms" ! First Rule is to believe weapon is loaded. Inspect the Arm to make sure it is not before doing "anything" with it.
The NRA teaches that, every safety class teaches that. I do not have kids in my house or I might act differently, but my nine is always loaded in the magazine, and so is my AR, but my AR is in the safe, the nine is not, I jack the slide and I'm ready! I hope I never have to use it !
